Jene & Dennis at El Convento San Juan

We had the pleasure of meeting Jene and Dennis at El Convento San Juan last summer while they were in town looking at venues and meeting other wedding professionals. We immediately hit off on our conversation with them, talking about their preferences in art, showing them galleries of our recent work, and talking about how we interact throughout the day, especially during the dance party. Jene and Dennis were planning an epic celebration, and they loved our attitude towards getting involved in the party. We were thrilled when they told us they wanted us to be with them for their celebration, and were really looking forward to working alongside Beatriz Collazo and her team.

We arrived to El Convento San Juan on Friday, when we checked out some of the spaces, and walked around the surrounding streets looking for interesting sights. After that we made our way to Cafe Punto, for their rehearsal dinner. Cafe Punto is a really neat space, filled with art, food, and plenty of hidden little rooms and walkways, in typical Old San Juan style. Their rehearsal dinner was great. We had a chance to meet the family, they all had a good time and since their group put the space at capacity, everyone was nice and up close and personal. We selected a handful of our favorite captures and posted them the next morning before the wedding, to give them a preview of their collection.

On wedding day Jene was getting ready at a house a couple blocks away from El Convento San Juan, and it was a very classic Old San Juan style home, built with completely closing large wooden doors and fixed shutters with wrought iron grates over the top. We did take the time to do some nice portraits of Jene in front of the light from one of these doors, and we are in love with the dramatic look of these images. Dennis got ready at El Convento, first hanging with the boys at the bar while other were at the pool, and finally moving to the bridal suite, where he and Jene would stay that night. The bridal suite in El Convento San Juan is really a gorgeous location for natural light photography. There is a large window inset with walls over a foot thick, in the fortified style that is common in Old San Juan. We decided on groomsman photos in front of the main window to take advantage of the rich natural light.

Their wedding ceremony took place at La Rogativa, a statue alongside the waterfront. Their reverend performed a beautiful ceremony. We had beautiful light cloud cover and a gentle cool breeze which kept everyone nice and comfortable despite their formal wear. Immediately after their ceremony a plenero band arrived and we had a parade back to the reception at El Convento. Their celebration was an absolute blast, and it was a pleasure to be able to capture Jene and Dennis’ special day in a location as amazing as El Convento. Once again, feeling blessed and grateful to be wedding photographers in Puerto Rico.
