The Loft at The Red Building | Lani & Cooper

Happy bride and groom gazing into each other's eyes on their wedding day at The Loft at The Red Building.

One of the best things about weddings is seeing couples bring all of themselves into their wedding. What they value, their culture, and their creative self.

I originally met this couple after shooting their friend’s wedding and couldn’t wait for their wedding.

Lani and Cooper brought it all out on their wedding day. I could see it in how they had their wedding in a place that reflected what they loved… like being near the ocean and honoring the Indigenous history of the land. Leis were flown in from Hawaii by Lani’s mom for the ceremony. Vintage decor was brought in by Cooper’s mom for the reception. Everything in between was really reflective of them… who they are!

I asked them what they were most looking forward to on their wedding day, their answer captured all the people they care about. It was about their relationship, sure, but about all the love in their lives, and I was so happy to be able to capture that.

When I shoot a wedding, I want to capture more than just the moments… I want to capture the feelings, the vibe, and the essence of the day. I want to make sure that the couple comes alive in their photos and that you can see the movement, even in a still shot. I want you – all the parts of you that you bring to your wedding planning – to be really seen.

Plus, at this wedding, I got to shoot at some great locations, both indoors and outdoors. Jump below to see each part of this incredible couple’s wedding!

    Getting Ready: The Astoria Inn

If you’re looking for a beautiful place to get ready, it’s hard to beat the Astoria Inn’s harbor views. It was a great backdrop to also capture the details. These two put a lot of work into the little things to put their stamp on their day. We also got to see Lani get a special gift from her grandmother. Her grandmother gave her a bangle that she had received many years ago that had brought her good luck that she hoped to pass down to her granddaughter.

    Ceremony: Maritime Memorial Park

Given Lani and Cooper’s love of the ocean, it made sense for them to hold their ceremony at the Maritime Memorial Park. What was great about shooting here was the contrast of the steel architecture of the bridges and the calming blue of the ocean. Having their friend as their officiant, these two had a beautiful ceremony, bringing in Lani’s Hawaiian background with the giving of leis. The leis traditionally represent unbroken unity and the coming together of a sum that is greater than its parts – what better way to represent the love these two have for each other?

The Reception: The Loft at The Red Building

There are so many reasons why you should choose this space for your wedding. Its location is so picturesque – it’s right at the Columbia River with an incredible view of the bridge. There are also so many windows to create a lot of natural light during the day – great for your pictures. The inside is warm, cozy and rustic but also versatile. You can do so much with this space to create your wedding. For Lani and Cooper’s wedding, most of their decor was DIY and recycled and it was really incredible.
